what's with the fucking racist idiots?
on friday night this guy my friends and i were hanging with asked me what other languages i spoke. why? because since i "wasn't white" obviously i should speak another language. i told him that i was Norwegian and that he should back off. and this guy is asian! did he not see how racist that was? what if i was greek or italian or something? and seriously, am i 'white'? technically, if you make a lovely pie chart of my heritage, i'm more 'white' than anything else. do you have to be 100% caucasian to be white? because apparently you don't have to be 100% black to be considered black. i call bullshit on that!
and then tonight at my friend's stag-ette, one of her friends starts talking about going to a bar where there were mainly black people. fine. but what she says is, "all i could see was teeth and eyeballs..." and proceeded to say how they all looked alike. i could not believe a 20 something woman would say shit like that...gave me the fucking rage! and hello, how often do black people find themselves the only non-whites in a room? like all the fucking time! so fucking get over it beeyotch!

This issue and homophobia strike a similar chord with me. I have zero tolerance for this shit and call people out on their bigotted remarks. It's very interesting to see what happens when a white person is in a situation where they are the minority whether it be in a restaurant, club, movie theater, etc.

I grew up surrounded by racism, not from my family thank god but neighbors and friend's families. I'll give details at another time, but it left me with little tolerance of the intolerant.

kat, i sat there for a very long time seething and not engaging in the conversation. if it had not been my best friend's stag, i would have said something but i didn't want to ruin the party 20 minutes in. i did speak to my friend while racist bitch was taking a smoke break and told her that her friend seriously offended me and that i didn't appreciate her comments.
the funny thing is, the girl was jewish and greek...you can't tell me no one's ever said dumbass racist shit to her!
egan, i think all 'white' people in the province should be forced to live on a reserve for at least a couple years of their lives, then they might be more sympathetic to being the minority the one fucking time it happens! my ex (the good one) lived with mainly cree and ojibwa people for a good part of his life that made him a very aware and sensitive individual.
....and don't get me started on the homophobia...get the fuck over it, the gay men don't want your ugly, bad-fashioned, beer-bellied asses!
todd (may i call you that?), i really don't know how people put up with that bullshit and it really bites my ass that it's socially inacceptable to call people, particularly old people on it. grandma should not be able to call your wife a 'dirty arab' no matter how old she is! that too is a story for another time.

ian, i can say fuck off in two languages...neither of which have anything to do with my ethnicity.
my dad, who was quite dark-skinned, had people ask him "what he was" all the time and he told them he was from Norway. i think i'll figure out how to say fuck off in Norweigian to honour my dad and to maintain my scandanavian heritage!
